4-H is the nation's largest youth development organization, involving young people in urban neighborhoods, suburban schoolyards and rural farming communities. Grant County 4-H program promotes the idea ?learn by doing? and provides leadership and life skills education for youth ages 5-18. Youth ages 5 to 7 are welcome to participate in Cloverbuds activities which provide a sneak peek to the traditional 4-H program through hands-on activities and lessons highlighting 4-H project areas. Youth ages 8 to 18 (by January 1 of the current year), may enroll in 4-H to participate in limitless activities and projects available throughout the year. There are 8 traditional 4-H clubs located throughout Grant County ? each offering unique opportunities, activities, and experiences. Additionally, we have two special interest groups which focus on specific project areas including: Dog and Shooting Sports.
The 4-H calendar runs from October 1 to September 30 of each year. Enrollment is submitted online each year. Activities are highlighted in our weekly Grant County Newsbits email update. Culminating events generally take place in June, July and August which showcase the achievements of 4-H members through their participation in Youth-in-Action Events, Horse Show, Dog Show, and 4-H Achievement Days.
The county office is in the Grant County Courthouse basement. 4-H programming in Grant County is part of the South Dakota State University and SDSU Extension.
