Auditor
The primary function of the Auditor’s office is the auditing of all the financial records of the County. The Auditor serves as the clerk of the county commissioners and preserves the records of the county commission proceedings.
The office is responsible for establishing tax levies for all the taxing entities and the apportioning of taxes collected to the schools, cities, townships and other taxing entities. The office manages accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, preparing the annual budget, financial reports, annual report for financials, liens, fixed assets inventory, sale of real property, generates tax bills for the Treasurer, abatement of taxes, tax refunds and added taxes.
Financial
The Auditor and staff are responsible for the accounting for the county. The duties of the office include auditing all claims against the county, paying the claims and maintaining the financial records. The Auditor is responsible for payroll including compliance with state and federal statutes. The Auditor prepares monthly financial reports, the annual report and annual budget process.
Taxation
The Auditor figures the tax levy and the taxes for all taxing entities within the county. This includes Towns, Townships, Schools, Water Districts, Ambulance Districts, and Road Districts. The Auditor generates the tax list and bills for the Treasurer to collect. The tax levy is based on the taxable value of the entity and the amount of tax dollars requested by each taxing entity. The apportioning of tax dollars to the various entities is completed by the Auditor’s office.
Elections
The Auditor serves as the election official for County, State, and Federal elections in Grant County. Responsibilities include managing voter registration; securing polling locations; appointing and training election poll workers; preparing ballots; counting ballots and reporting election results; and maintaining voter registration records and voter history.
Passports
The Auditor’s office is the authorized passport agency in the Courthouse. Passport applications may be filled out during normal business hours of Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
