Grant County

Emergency Management

The Grant County Emergency Management Department prepares for and responds to potential emergencies affecting the county. The department develops and updates emergency plans to address a variety of possible situations. These plans outline the local and regional resources needed to carry out an effective response during a disaster.

Department Responsibilities

  • Emergency Planning: Identify likely emergency scenarios and create strategic plans to address them.
  • Resource Coordination: Determine necessary resources, both within Grant County and from surrounding regions.
  • Homeland Security Grants: Manage and coordinate the grant process for Homeland Security funding.
  • Training Exercises: Schedule and conduct emergency response drills and first responder training sessions.
  • Government Liaison: Act as the point of contact between Grant County and the South Dakota State Emergency Management. Maintain up-to-date contact information for local, state, and federal agencies, as well as first responders.

In the Event of a Disaster

Should an emergency or disaster occur, the Emergency Manager is responsible for coordinating the county’s response. This includes overseeing communication between agencies, deploying resources, and ensuring the safety of both the public and emergency personnel.
