Grant County
4-H Opportunities
4-H is the nation’s largest youth development organization, engaging youth from all backgrounds—rural, suburban, and urban. The Grant County 4-H program is a proud part of SDSU Extension and promotes the motto: “Learn by Doing.”
We offer leadership development and life skills education for youth ages 5 to 18 as of January 1st of the current year. Here’s what you can expect by age group:
- Ages 5-7 Cloverbuds: Introductory, hands-on activities to explore 4-H project areas.
- Ages 8-18 Traditional 4-H: Access to a wide range of clubs, projects, and special events.
There are eight traditional 4-H clubs located throughout Grant County, each offering unique opportunities, activities, and experiences. Additionally, we have two special interest groups that focus on specific project areas, including dog and shooting sports.
The 4-H calendar runs from October 1 to September 30 of each year. Enrollment is submitted online each year. Activities are highlighted in our weekly Grant County Newsbits email update. Culminating events generally take place in June, July and August which showcase the achievements of 4-H members through their participation in Youth-in-Action Events, Horse Show, Dog Show, and 4-H Achievement Days.
