Register of Deeds
The Register of Deeds Office is the primary records office for the county. Land records, including deeds, mortgages, satisfactions and easements, etc as well as military discharge records, state and federal tax liens, UCC’s, and other documents are recorded or filed and maintained with the Register of Deeds.
In addition to document recordation, the Register of Deeds issues South Dakota Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates and Marriage Licenses.
- All documents must comply with the document standards law.
- A self-addressed postage-paid return envelope is required for the return of all documents.
Genealogy Research
Indexes of Death Certificates and Marriage Records to conduct genealogical research are available, provided that you are a research member of the South Dakota Genealogical Society. Information about the Research Cards and how to obtain them is found on the:
Property Searches
The public is welcome to do research in our office during regular business hours. An individual will receive instructions and assistance on the Index books. The fee for copies is as prescribed in statute SDCL 7-9-15 (2).
