A recent addition to the duties of the Sheriff has been the 24/7 Program. This program is a court ordered alternative to jail sentences for alcohol and drug related offenses. One program has individuals being tested twice a day with a portable breath tester (PBT) for evidence of drinking. Another program has individuals wearing an ankle monitor to track blood alcohol levels.
This is more than just a program but a commitment to working with chronic DUI and illegal drug offenders into changing their behavior and prevention of additional alcohol and drug arrests. The program has one main goal for each alcohol and illegal drug defendant and that is sobriety 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.
